This website is run by Julian and Chuck. Both Republicans. Both different types of Republicans. We also have regular contributions by Republicans Ignacio and Joel.
Julian
Julian is a Republican that, for the most part, deems himself fiscally very conservative… low taxes, tight spending, line-item vetoes, no pork and not too much a fan of social programs. He sees himself on social policies as middle of the road and believes homosexual couples should be allowed civil unions, be happy and have all the same rights and benefits afforded couples in marriage. (Just don’t call it “marriage”) And Julian is very hawkish on foreign policy. Speak softly and carry a big stick. In a nutshell, he’s very passionate about politics, enjoys the think-tank concept of politics and believes swift action is admirable, has well-defined opinions on his conservatism, and knows that too much politics can give him a heart attack.
Chuck
Chuck traces his conservatism to Thomas Jefferson, who believed that America would be best served by a weak central government, and Edmund Burke, who condemned extreme democracy as nothing more than mob mentality. He believes that a government that tries to ensure equality undermines the freedoms of its citizenry. He supports free trade, low taxes, and less regulations; allowing the market to determine where scarce resources should be allocated. He also believes that any social program that takes resources from one group of people to serve another group is an act of violence. On social policies such as abortion and gay marriage, he errs on the side of the traditions that have best served this country since its foundation. On the issue of science and government policy he believes that science should not be restrained by the wants of bureaucrats. Individuals that have influenced Chuck: Milton Friedman, Thomas Sowell, F.A. Hayek, Ronald Reagan, Calvin Coolidge, Paul Johnson, Frederick Bastiat, and Howard Roark.
Ignacio
Views conservatism as bound by the principle that government exists to serve its people, not the other way around. Since Abraham Lincoln’s creation of the Republican party, conservatism has had at its core the conviction that America’s collective greatness is defined by our people’s individual worth. Ignacio views conservatism as pledged to a competent limited government, supply side economics hallmarked by low taxes and controlled spending, strong national and domestic defense, and judicial restraint. Ignacio’s brand of conservatism has been defined by Abraham Lincoln’s courage to reclaim the sanctity of human equality, Teddy Roosevelt’s opposition to corporatist government control, Ronald Reagan’s stand against socialism foreign and domestic, and Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas’ defense of the rule of law against unelected judicial tyranny.
